Monoux Alms Houses, Walthamstow
Dating from the 1500s, the Alms Houses are a Grade II listed property. When the decision was taken to upgrade the quality of accommodation for the elderly residents, FGC had to balance the needs of modern refurbishment with the demands of a uniquely historic fabric. It worked closely with the local conservation officer to ensure all specified works conformed to given criteria and the end result has seen a stunning building returned to the community, with vastly improved facilities for residents. The project saw multiple works, from the construction of a sympathetic extension to replacement gables, and from plastering and damp-proofing to the creation of beautiful kitchens and bathrooms.
